Directed by Raj Kumar Hirani and produced by Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Siddharth Roy Kapur PK is a Hindi movie scheduled to be released on December 14. It stars Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani, and Sanjay Dutt.
This is one of the very few times when the marketing team is banking heavenly on Movie posters facilitating promotions to go viral. The first poster of the movie came out in July which had similarities with the poster of a Portuguese musician named Quim Barreiros (released way back in 1973). The poster sparked controversy and aroused tremendous viral marketing as it featured Aamir Khan posing almost nude with only a transistor covering his private parts. Twitter was buzzed with some very funny tweets like “PK is Aamir in ‘Ghajini’ redux. His enemies have removed all his tattoos. Especially the crucial one telling him where he kept his clothes,” Another user joked that “Post ‘Talaash’ Aamir’s eyebrows have taken a life of their own. Yes. In the PK first look poster, I was looking at the eyebrows. Many jokes compared the actor’s nude look to Sunny Leone. “Strange times have come… Aamir Khan removes clothes to promote his movie… Sunny Leone wears clothes to promote her’s.”
The second poster featured Aamir Khan wearing traditional Rajasthani attire, also sporting dark glasses and holding onto a brass tenor. The 3rd motion poster introduced Sanjay Dutt as Bhairav Singh wearing the same attire which Amir wore in the second poster. It’s heard that PK will have a poster campaign in which a new poster will be introduced every two to three weeks. By the time the movie releases, 8 to 10 posters will be launched.
The fourth poster has Aamir Khan in a police uniform. Each poster surely leaves us more and more intrigued. As per Movie Director, each poster is revealing a story that is certainly increasing the curiosity.
This one is proving to be a typical case of a lethal combination of a great director who is known to deliver great movies carrying unique script, producers, star cast, and different approached marketing. The first banner set the expectation so high that there are hopes now to view something different every time. As saying goes, Picture speaks more than 1000 words however in the case of PK movie it has given its mileage which is unparalleled so far. Worldwide distribution rights of PK were sold for INR145 Crores (US$24 million) which is a record sum!!
As per us, the first poster of the film takes the cake. Which one as per you is the most intriguing so far and also do you think the same marketing strategy (8-10 different banners) can hold or increase the curiosity level till December or better to adopt more ways to keep expectations going north?
